It’s that time of year again when trout put on their thinking caps to outwit, outrun, and outlast parents and their kids at the annual El Cajon Ford Youth Fishing Derby at Lake Poway on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Join the City of Poway for a great day of fun and prizes! The event begins at 6:00 a.m., fishing continues until 12:00 p.m., and then all participating children and their families are invited to enjoy a tasty and free barbeque lunch. The awards ceremony will begin shortly after 1:00 p.m. and great prizes will be awarded to age division winners and lucky raffle contestants. Prizes will also be awarded to the child with the best fishing story!
In preparation for the event, Lake Poway will be closed Wednesday through Friday, February 1 through 3, 2012, for boating and fishing. The Lake will also be closed to all adult fishing from 6:00 a.m. to noon on the day of the Derby. Parents are encouraged to assist children during the tournament but will not be permitted to fish.
