Study Skills in Organic Chemistry: 9 Golden Rules for Success
What I do is more teaching than tutoring. I am the only seasoned academic Ph.D. in San Diego who utilizes perceptual psychology to tutor both undergraduate and graduate level Organic Chemistry. I firmly believe in reducing the material to the student's level for total comprehension.

My style is simple. It is my belief that the diligent student has the knowledge in his/her head to solve problems, however requires a guided approach (Socratic Method) to draw forth the information. My key responsibilities are (1) show the student how to approach organic chemistry as a "language"; (2) to teach the student problem solving skills; and (3) to get the student to the point of becoming independent. I keep things flexible, adaptive, personal when necessary, and prefer to offer real-life applications of the material taught so students can understand the importance of learning the subject.
The best time to hire a tutor is when you begin to need one. Please don't wait until the semester is half completed before doing so. I have a 100% success rate in coaching my students into A/B grades when they follow my suggestions and adhere to their S.M.A.R.T. goals, and can make this happen for you!
Did you know that San Diego agencies on average charge over $55 per hour with an average minimum purchase of SIXTEEN hours? Did you know many times they employ people who have taken only four (4) courses in chemistry? Four courses!!! My competitive rate is as little as $37.50 per hour (no package), $35 per hour (10 h package) or $32.50 per hour (20 h package)! I prefer not to go over three hours for a given session unless it is absolutely necessary. The number of sessions per week is determined by your needs. In Fall 2010, I had a particularly challenging Organic Synthesis class, and I hired Joseph as an organic tutor for the semester. He did such a great job I recommended him to my friends, and two of those students also became regular clients. Joseph has great skills for explaining these complex reaction systems, mechanisms, requirements for the reactions, the physical dynamics involved in why a reaction works one way as opposed to another. He has a great amount of patience when teaching the subject matter. Joseph was also able to bring real world experience to the paper drawings that illustrate organic chemistry reactions by explaining one could use this reaction in the process to make a drug, as an example.
