Refurbished mid-1900’s Lionel Ship-log Register, Rotor, Sinker, and Governor . These registers are mounted on the taffrail (stern), while a line connected rotor (with Governor attached) is drug through the water. The register records the rotor’s revolutions and converts them into nautical miles. The 4¼” face is signed as follows: “TYPE TL” “TAFFRAIL LOG” “Manufactured by THE LIONEL CORPORATION” “NEW YORK, N.Y.”. The large dial reads form 0 to 100 nautical miles while the small dial reads from one-tenth to one nautical mile. The brass register measures 11” Long x 5” Wide x 6” Deep and has the swivel mount. The attached cast iron Governor is stamped “TL 59” and measures 17” Long x 4” Wide and is connected to the register by a 12” x 3/8" cotton line. The rotor assembly includes a 15” x 6½” rotor, 6” x 1¼” sinker, and 27” of half inch braided cotton line. One rotor fin is stamped as follows: Lionel’s Trademark plus “THE LIONEL CORPORATION” “NEW YORK N.Y.” “TYPE TL”. Both cotton lines have been “whipped” at both ends. All the components in this assembly weigh 15 pounds. These finely crafted nautical artifacts represent a rare collection of international. maritime history.
